Are you passionate about what you do?

Do you want to make a difference?

British Triathlon is seeking to recruit to the board, an Independent Non-Executive Director, with a specific portfolio for Marketing & Communications. This voluntary role is for an initial four-year term, and we are now inviting applications.

We have made great progress in achieving a more balanced gender split, but our Board currently lacks any representation from backgrounds including BAME, Disability, LGBTQ+. This is most definitely not representative of our sport and our society and as such we would actively welcome applicants from these backgrounds.

British Triathlon plays a leading role in the development and innovation of triathlon, a fast growing, dynamic and modern sport. With a remit to raise the profile and deliver the performance pathway, significant progress has been made, with triathlon events in Britain televised across Europe, and Britain recognized as a leading performer in delivering world triathlon championship events. Twice winner of the SIA National Governing Body of the Year, British Triathlon’s Board aspires to excellence.

British Triathlon, a company limited by guarantee, acts as the governing body for the sport and recreation of Triathlon and her associated disciplines in Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Our Portfolio Directors are appointed by the Board based on who meets the skills and experience we are seeking. In order to apply for this role, you should be able to demonstrate that you have experience either at a senior role or indeed previous board or committee experience and can demonstrate a big picture understanding of the wide role that marketing and communications plays within sport.

With our governance structure and vision, we need individuals who can help develop and maintain British Triathlon’s strategic focus and direct the organisation towards its future. You would need to be able to make a commitment to British Triathlon and devote the necessary time, have strategic vision, independent judgement, an ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak your mind.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

 An impressive track record of success in the private, public and/or voluntary sector
 The ability to operate at a senior level
 A good understanding of the role that sport plays in society
 Ability to think creatively and strategically; the skills to challenge current thinking at Board level
 A clear commitment to improving diversity and equality and understanding the needs of under-represented groups in sport
 A willingness and ability to develop a solid and collaborative working relationship with the executive team
 An understanding of Broadcasting of Major Events and managing such relationships would be desirable
 A strong knowledge and experience of digital marketing

Triathlon is a young, modern and ambitious sport. As such we are keen to attract a wider pool of talent to our board to help our sport attract and integrate with a wider participant base better reflecting today’s society.

We can pay travel expenses and provide a full induction to the NGB’s work. You will be expected to attend four Board meetings a year, which are normally held on a Saturday in Loughborough. In addition, we would encourage your attendance at a number of triathlon events.
